10 Things We Learned From Post-Extreme Rules WWE Raw (June 5)
6. Intercontinental Title Comeback Tour
A second mid-show atonement for the rotten Alexa Bliss/Bayley segment from last week saw a spectacular long con from the writers as The Miz nervously toasted his seventh Intercontinental Title reign. In a nod to their own creative laziness in these scenarios, Miz was wise to the usual hijinks that occur.
It was a superb night for the champion, who was given the time and freedom to show the range that got him to within touching distance of a WWE Title programme on SmackDown Live! before the 'Superstar Shake-up'.
First dousing fans' 'You Deserve It' chant by coldly noting how they do that for every champion, he then decking an extra in a bear outfit and smashed up a Grandfather Clock (gifted to him from wife Maryse because 'he's timeless'), awaiting the inevitable appearance of the 'Lunatic Fringe'.
With his wife storming off in floods of tears, Miz angrily lamented his night, only to witness his own eventual demise on the TitanTron, as Ambrose put down the camera he'd been holding in disguise. It was a superb reveal and a crowd-pleasing payoff that thankfully didn't require either character to be utterly braindead.
