WWE booked Randy and Edge into a corner by dubbing their Backlash 2020 headliner the "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever" before it had even happened. Both guys knew the pressure was on, and Orton revealed that neither one was exactly thrilled when McMahon told them the company would be piping in crowd noise as well.

"Aw no!", they said.

The boss was pretty much using that match as a tester for piped-in ambience (which has become a firm fixture on programming during the ThunderDome era), but they weren't sure it would work. At the same time, Edge and Randy were determined to fight back against WWE's impossible hype and make the match as special as it could be.

Randy did tell Austin that "you can never have the greatest wrestling match ever". Still, he's damn proud of everything he and Edge achieved on that pay-per-view. It remains one of his personal favourites from a career stacked with excellent matches.
