10 Things We Learned From Rey Mysterio On The Ross Report
3. Jim Ross Told Him To Rest And Relax Post-WCW
The then-WWF weren't really interested in presenting a Cruiserweight division in early 2001, so it's anyone's guess whether or not Rey Mysterio would have been able to make a splash in the promotion if he had signed over post-WCW.
Still under contract to AOL/Time Warner for just over a year following WCW's closure, Rey was in no rush to give up on guaranteed money, but he admits he did have interest in finally working for Vince McMahon. That's when Jim Ross stepped in and gave Mysterio some smart advice.
Not encouraging the Luchador to accept a contractual buyout and begin working for the WWF, the Talent Relations guru told Rey he should take time to heal his body after years on the road and finally spend some much-needed time with his family at home.
More importantly, JR told Rey that the WWF would still be interested when his deal with AOL/Time Warner expired, and that helped settle Mysterio's fears that any McMahon-related opportunity would disappear if he didn't snatch it there and then.
