His initial Raw debut ended as soon as it began when he suffered a shoulder injury during the entrance of the Cena match. On the way to the ring Sami was doing his usual routine where he thrusts his arms in the air and says he felt something pop.

It didn't bother him too badly at first and he went along with the contest, but several minutes in the then-US champion delivered a back suplex and Zayn felt his entire shoulder slip out. He was trying to alert the referee while simultaneously making his way to the apron to try and pop it back in.

Sami said he had no choice but to gut it out and the thought of waving off the match wasn't even an option. When he got backstage Randy Orton was preparing for his appearance on the show and basically diagnosed him with a torn labrum and rotator cuff as he was being examined by the trainer, which ended up being correct.

Sami was against getting surgery at first because he was adamant that he didn't want to miss any time, but Triple H was insistent so he finally relented and had the operation.
