Wright had just returned from a tour of Germany when his old pal Mark, now working as The Undertaker, recommended him to Vinnie Mac. The WWF brought Charles in to have a look at him, and Vince said he had "the body of a monster, but a baby face". He wanted Chuck to sit tight whilst they came up with something for him.

A few months later, McMahon called and told Wright to rent the James Bond flick 'Live & Let Die'. The wrestler was familiar with the movie, but watched it again and saw the villainous voodoo priest Baron Samedi. That was Vince's idea - he wanted to turn Wright into Papa Shango.

A bit of trepidation wasn't going to stop Charles from giving it a go.

He visited some "voodoo people" down in New Orleans and did his homework on witchcraft in general for a good few months. Austin seemed impressed by that, especially because (by his own admission) Charles was never a 'wrestling guy'.
