It took 'Taker almost a full year to acclimatise to his new character.

He'd become accustomed to showing off his superior athletic ability in WCW, and he loved hitting the ropes, performing leapfrogs and being super-flexible. The Undertaker gimmick restricted him to slow, methodical movements, and it was a change he found agonising for the longest time.

'Taker had to fight his natural instincts. He'd watch others fly around the ring bumping their asses off, and he knew he could do that too. The only problem was that he also believed his new persona would fizzle out if he did too much too soon. Pulling back and putting his ego aside lengthened 'Taker's shelf life.

It was a smart decision, one he'd come to thank himself for years later. Instead of bumping around for others, he cleverly showcased his athleticism by using in-character moves like that diving clothesline off the ropes, or the big jumping DDT he'd master.
