It's amazing to think now, but Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano were only put together as a tag-team because WWE remembered their chemistry from the CWC and needed another team for the 2015 Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic. Their team, known as DIY, was supposed to be a short-lived one.

Things changed when WWE started to notice how well both guys had gelled personally as well as professionally. The initial plan called for Ciampa to turn heel on Gargano after only a couple of weeks, and he said on the podcast he was excited by that. At the same time, he was having a blast teaming with Gargano.

The turn got pushed back several times.

WWE decided to just roll with what they had. Ciampa told Edge and Christian that the general feeling was the turn could happen eventually, but creative believed they could sit on that plot twist for a while and ruminate over it in the future.
