10 Things We Learned From VICE’s Dark Side Of The Ring: New Jack
4. Why Paul Heyman Apologised To Him
Jack was taken to court years after 'Mass Transit' and defended himself against charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. It was a tumultuous time for the man, and ECW. Suddenly, their sensationalistic approach to extreme violence was under the microscope, and Paul Heyman was called upon to testify.
His testimony included a unique apology.
The court asked Heyman to describe his part in the incident, and then wanted to know what Kulas' father had screamed at New Jack backstage as his son was carried away. At first, Paul was hesitant to say, but eventually turned to Jack, said he was sorry and then testified that Mr. Kulas had called his wrestler the aforementioned 'n-word'.
Jack believes to this day that Heyman put in a world class performance in front of the courts. He thinks his boss was working them, and only complied enough with the trial's investigation to reveal that Erich had lied about his age and experience to ECW management and staff.
