10 Things We Learned From VICE's Chyna Documentary

8. Chyna Approached Triple H

It was Joanie herself who first approached Triple H about working for the WWF. She'd seen him around once or twice after attending shows, and told her then-boyfriend Gerry Blais that she had a plan. Laurer was going to approach Trips and ask if he'd be interested in having her as his bodyguard.

That was totally fresh.

Blais didn't want to stand in Chyna's way or stop her from living her dreams. He could see that she was taken with wrestling, and admired the fact that she was willing to be so bold and approach an already-established name in the biz. Gerry was even more impressed when it actually worked.

Common WWE storytelling claims that Triple H headhunted Chyna from Killer Kowalski's training school. There may be some truth in that if she was a top prospect, but VICE's doc says it was Joanie who first made contact with Hunter about coming in as his muscle.
