Chavo Guerrero admired the friendship his uncle Eddie and Chris had.

After Eddie passed, Chavo grew closer to Benoit and began riding the roads with him alongside WWE ref Scott Armstrong. On 23 June 2007, Chavo received some odd texts from his pal. Around 5am that morning, his phone lit up with the message, "The dogs are in the yard and the back door is open". Then, another one buzzed with Benoit's home address.

The previous night, Chris had phoned Chavo, said he wouldn't make it to a house show and claimed both Nancy and Daniel had bad food poisoning. Something seemed off about Benoit's later texts, and it was "weird" to Chavo that the exact same messages flooded in from Nancy's phone too.

John Laurinaitis was angry with Chavo when he found out about the texts, and said Guerrero should've told WWE. In fairness, Chavo and Armstrong (who had received the same texts) were only trying to cover for their friend so he wouldn't get in trouble with the office.
