Eddie's passing in late-2005 hit Benoit hard. He'd lost his best friend, and he instantly shut himself off from some closest to him (Jericho described Chris as a "hermit" after Guerrero's funeral). His dedication to wrestling never wavered, but Benoit was detached from old friends and his worried wife Nancy.

So, she decided to get him a journal and encouraged her man to write letters to Eddie.

It worked, at least a little. Benoit was buoyed by the ability to freely express himself on the page, and he regularly wrote to his friend after major holidays and family events like Thanksgiving. Later, the media grabbed hold of his journal and used it as evidence of a man who was rapidly losing his mind.

That wasn't what Nancy or her sister Sandra had intended when they suggested Chris begin writing. They wanted to give him a healthy outlet for his pain and hoped Benoit would come out of his shell. Regrettably, after a promising start, he never really did.
