10 Things We Learned From Vince Russo's WWE 1998 Timeline Kayfabe Commentaries Shoot

1. There Were Talks With Ric Flair About Coming To The WWF In March

Straight away, it's important to note that Vince Russo claims he wasn't involved in these talks. However, he does tell Sean Oliver and the wrestling world that other WWF officials did hold some discussions with one of WCW's biggest names in 1998. During the month of March, some of Vince McMahon's staff spoke with none other than 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair. That would have been some deal, and would have marked the second time that Flair had jumped to the World Wrestling Federation. Having already done the same thing back in 1991, it's remarkable to imagine that the multi-time champion might have been appearing on Raw Is War in the Spring months of 1998. That April, Flair disappeared from WCW television for months due to a disagreement with Eric Bischoff. Russo doesn't go into details about whether or not that had anything to do with talks, but it seems the wrestler did put feelers out to gauge WWF interest. Once again, he had become disenfranchised with what was happening in Atlanta. A heel Flair going against a Steve Austin on the rise would have been something else.
