10 Things We Learned From Vince Russo's WWE 1998 Timeline Kayfabe Commentaries Shoot
4. The Road Warriors Were Repackaged To Stop Sunny's Sable Jealousy
By his own admission, Vince Russo was "smitten" with Rena 'Sable' Mero. In 1998, she suddenly became one of the most featured names on the roster, and her popularity even rivaled the likes of Steve Austin in the eyes of management. Not everybody was delighted with this, most notably Tammy 'Sunny' Sytch. Previously, she had been the apple of everyone's eye. In a mind-boggling segment of the Kayfabe Commentaries shoot, Russo revealed why Sunny was put in with The Road Warriors. Otherwise known as the Legion Of Doom, Hawk and Animal were one of pro wrestling's premier teams. At WrestleMania XIV, they were repackaged as 'LOD 2000' and given brand-spanking new spikes and face paint. The main reason for this was to placate Sunny, who was insanely jealous over Sable's success. That's incredible to think, one of wrestling's biggest and most well-known teams found itself rebranded due to bitchy whining from someone backstage about the lack of focus on her. It was arguably the end of LOD's peak as a tandem.
