On 10 September 2019, The Undertaker appeared on SmackDown to talk about MSG and then paste one Sami Zayn. It seemed like such a throwaway performance back then; this very writer even scratched his head and wondered what the hell WWE were trying to achieve with the segment.

It only makes sense now.

When viewed in context with the documentary series nobody knew 'Taker was filming last year, the Garden promo takes on new life. It was so, so, so special to him personally (he knew it'd likely be his last chance to say goodbye to the hallowed halls that had pinned down his love affair with pro wrestling). It was one last hurrah.

'Last Ride' almost makes one feel guilty for brushing off the promo as pointless back in 2019. It's clear that this was WWE's way of giving back to the man who had served them so mightily, and that's actually kinda' lovely to think about. Who knew a 'Phenom' could be this mushy?
