10 Things We Learned From WWE's Undertaker: The Last Ride (Bonus Chapter)
8. He Had No Idea What Vince's Vision Was
As he agreed that he was, in fact "The Undertaker", Calaway had no idea what that was.
He just didn't want to rock the boat during one of his earliest phone conversations with Vince, and he was only worried about saving himself from egg-related doom. He did, of course; The Undertaker was a masterstroke from McMahon, but nobody could've made as much of that character as ol' 'Mean' Mark.
It might've been easy for 'Taker to become a short-lived cartoon who flopped with the WWF's audience and was sent packing back to WCW with his tail between his legs. Obviously, that didn't happen. Calaway went on to become an icon and in-arguably the best gimmick in WWE history.
Who knows how different things would've been had he said, 'No, this isn't The Undertaker. Who the f*ck is The Undertaker?', or rubbished McMahon's vision for him as hokey. Going along for the ride was the best decision 'Taker ever made.
