10 Things We Learned From 'Young Bucks: Killing The Business From Backyards To The Big Leagues'

6. The Origin Of The Young Bucks Name

In February 2005, the Young Bucks became the Young Bucks for the very first time.

At that point in time, Matt was working as Mr. Instant Replay and Nick was going by Slick Nick. When Joey Kaos booked Matt and Nick to work on on the debut Full-Contact Wrestling show, it was here that the duo first used the Young Bucks name - and it was not by choice.

From Matt:

"I looked over to the wall where I saw a piece of white paper being taped. It was the evening's card. I raced over and looked to see where our match was being placed on the card. I scanned the paper, but I couldn't find Slick Nick, or Mr. Instant Replay, anywhere. Finally, I found our opponents' names written on the card. And next to it read, 'Matt and Nick, the Young Bucks.'
Joey Kaos saw me looking at the card and said, 'Hey man, we didn't know what to call you guys. In fact, we couldn't even remember your work names, so every time we discussed you guys, we'd go, 'What should we call those young bucks, Matt and Nick?' So, we figured, Young Bucks was perfect!' I smiled and agreed, but my heart sank. I thought Young Bucks was the worst name ever. And what about our sweet gimmick names, Mr. Instant Replay and Slick Nick? We're just Matt and Nick now?"

Safe to say, that Young Bucks moniker managed to catch on just a little bit.
