10 Things WWE Actually Got Right In 2020

1. Roman Reigns’ Heel Turn

Cast your minds back to WrestleMania 36's build and you might recall that poster boy for his generation Roman Reigns was set to collide with Bill Goldberg. It was positioned as a "dream match" and an easy sell for the biggest show of the year. The problem? Reigns felt every bit as stale as his ex-WCW counterpart.

Something had to change, but WWE were hesitant to change it.

A self-imposed (and admirable) sabbatical due to COVID concerns lasted over four months before Roman bounded back onto WWE TV at SummerSlam. There, he looked like a new animal. A subsequent alliance with manager extraordinaire Paul Heyman then confirmed that Reigns was a singles heel for the first time since reaching the top.

This was the best decision of the year. A heel run has totally re-energised Roman, given Heyman purpose and even helped enhance the careers of others like Jey Uso into the bargain. Reigns has transformed himself from yawn-worthy babyface hero to a dynamic, engaging bad ass in the blink of an eye.
