8. Big E's WWE Championship Run
Through no fault of the company or his own, Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship run last year played out to silence. Twice. While The Scottish Warrior is still waiting for his moment in the sun to take place in front of people, WWE wasted very little time in making sure that there was a WWE Champion to cheer for when the crowds finally returned. On 13 September 2021, they delivered.
After seven months of watching Bobby Lashley dismantle The Miz, swindle McIntyre, hobble Goldberg while ragdolling his son and obliterate his New Day brethren, Big E picked his spot after a particularly taxing match between Lashley and Randy Orton to reach the summit eight and a half years after his NXT call-up. By stark contrast, Big E's thus far seven week reign as champion has been a pleasure.
In his short time as champion, E has produced outstanding singles outings against Kevin Owens, Lashley in a Steel Cage, McIntyre at Crown Jewel and in a nice piece of full-circle storytelling, will eventually meet the man he unseated for the NXT Championship and last knocked off the ladder for the Money In The Bank briefcase, Seth Rollins. Paired with reliably good tag matches alongside The New Day and McIntyre, Big E's run as champion has been a highlight of Monday Night RAW's hottest streak since before the ThunderDome era. He's also on a trajectory to main event Survivor Series against Roman Reigns, which should be fantastic.
