10 Things WWE Could Learn From Lucha Underground

1. Deliver Storylines That Have A Payoff

As a viewer, WWE can be really hard to get invested in quite often. There have simply been too many cases of the company completely dropping storylines, or not paying them off in a way that makes any sort of sense sense.

We’ve been subjected to the Anonymous GM fiasco, Vince McMahon losing power then getting it back without a word of how, and Brie Bella continuing to align herself with Nikki after being forced to be her servant. Those are just a few of the many examples.

In contrast, Lucha has had several stories that spanned across an entire season, or that went form one season to the next. Dario Cueto’s criminal investigation is ongoing, with new characters and details added along the way. Matanza’s reveal took dozens of episodes to go down, Sexy Star was kidnapped, then terrified and psychologically tortured by Maripoza, she escaped, and eventually found her courage again. She went on a journey.

Stories start in Lucha Underground, interesting things then happen, and it all ends with a satisfying conclusion. For some reason that is a novel concept in WWE.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
