10 Things WWE Could Learn From Lucha Underground

8. Hire Announcers Who Care

Matt Striker is a better announcer than Michael Cole.

Is that controversial? Well, he takes the product far more seriously, he jokes around far less, and his knowledge of wrestling is infinitely greater than WWE's lead play-by-play. No one is going to compare Striker to Jim Ross, but the former school teacher has proven he’s more than capable of hosting a wrestling show.

And while Striker isn’t the coolest guy around, he sure isn’t a giant dork like Cole. Advantage: Lucha Underground.

I will also attempt to argue that Vampiro is a better color commentator than JBL, simply based off the fact that he’s not insanely annoying like Vince McMahon’s on-air mouthpiece.

Vampiro can be pretty hit or miss while on the headset. He does have great enthusiasm, but sometimes throws off the narrative off the match a bit with some rambling. Still, he doesn’t yell “Wah! Wah! Wah!” every show. He doesn’t argue with Striker just for the hell of it.

He doesn’t shout out dated references that make you wonder just who the target audience is. In conclusion: Vampiro is okay at his job. JBL is awful at his job. Advantage: Lucha Underground.

Oh, and both LU announcers are far superior to Byron Saxton. But that didn’t really need its own paragraph to explain why. The lesson here for WWE is: hire better announcers.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
