10 Things WWE Could Learn From Lucha Underground

6. Book Credible Heels

WWE has Brock Lesnar, one of the absolute toughest people on the planet, and he hasn't been pushed as unstoppable as The Monster Matanza has been pushed. While Brock did get to pummel John Cena in their SummerSlam match a couple years ago, he’s been booked as mortal far more often than he ever should have been. The Undertaker, and Triple H both beat up the man on multiple occasions in the lead-up to their matches, and then proceeded to beat him in the matches too a couple times.

Go back and watch Aztec Warfare this year, and you’ll see a heel pushed in a way that WWE has never even dreamed of. Matanza was finally introduced to the crowd, and absolutely destroyed everyone in the sight for the rest of the match. Even top babyfaces like Rey Mysterio Jr. and Prince Puma were hesitant to get in the ring with him. That didn’t damage their credibility, it just immediately made Matanza look like an unstoppable force.

It’s not just Dario’s brother either. Mil Muertes is booked as a huge badass. Same with Cage. Of course, there are chickens**t heels like Johnny Mundo and Jack Evans, but it’s not an entire roster full of them like WWE has. If Vince McMahon pushed Bray Wyatt half as well as Muertes or Matanza have been pushed, he'd have a major star by now.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
