Cody Rhodes has had an interesting WWE career thus far, but he hasn't been able to crack that infamous 'glass ceiling' to become a headline player.

At one point, he seemed destined to enter the main event mix. The son of the legendary 'American Dream' Dusty Rhodes, Cody was somebody WWE could trust to love their industry.

His dedication never in question, Rhodes evolved through a series of increasingly-wacky characters. First, he became 'Dashing', then a moustache seemed to be his most marketable quality.

Soon thereafter, Cody started using the Stardust gimmick (a takeoff of his brother's Goldust gimmick) in 2014.

When his father sadly passed away in June, 2015, many expected that Cody would ditch the cartoon-like gimmick and return to a more straight-laced appearance. That never happened, and it came as a surprise.

Resisting the temptation to simply become Cody Rhodes again, Stardust continued, but hasn't really had a great deal of success over the past year or so.

Most felt it was only a matter of time before the guise was retired.
