10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About Bobby Fish
5. He Was In Pro Wrestling NOAH's G1 Climax Equivalent
Every year, New Japan Pro Wrestling holds the G1 Climax - a two-block round-robin tournament where 20 heavyweight stars test their mettle against each other in what's considered the most grueling contest in all of wrestling. At the end, the leaders of each block face off, with the winner being declared the victor of the G1.
Likewise, two of Japan's other top promotions - All Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH - have similar round robin tournaments. All Japan holds the Champion Carnival, while NOAH hosts the Global League.
In 2011, Bobby Fish was part of the Global League tournament, despite the fact that he worked primarily as a junior heavyweight. As part of the B block in the Global League, he faced off against the likes of Kensuke Sasaki, Takashi Sugiura, and KENTA (WWE's Hideo Itami). Though Fish ultimately finished last in the B block with only four points (two victories), the fact that he was a part of it at his size was a major feather in his cap.
