2. Hero's In The Form Of His Life

For all the plaudits that Chris Hero earned during his time on the independents the first time around (particular with the Kings Of Wrestling), the Ohioan has never been stronger than he is today. Hero has been in the form of his life in 2016, and when he rejoins WWE, he’ll be leaving behind an incredible body of work that only Will Ospreay can match on the indies this year.

Barely a week passes without Hero producing a “must see” match. He opened 2016 by teaming with Tommy End for a blistering EVOLVE tag match with Sami Callihan and Zack Sabre Jr., and only got better as the year progressed. He dazzled in US-based matches with Jeff Cobb and Timothy Thatcher, and tore it up with barnburners against Mark Andrews, Tommy End, Marty Scurll, and Tomohiro Ishii in the UK. The indies haven’t seen such consistency since Daniel Bryna’s Ring of Honor heyday, and may never again.

At 36 years old, Chris Hero has perfected his craft. WWE are getting him at the absolute height of his powers, and while there’s a strong chance he’ll head to NXT first, he’d immediately be one of the main roster’s best wrestlers if he headed to Raw or SmackDown. Hero is 2016’s definitive indie wrestling critical darling, and he’ll rejoin the company with unparalleled momentum.
