Okay, not necessarily the show itself, but it was the then-Biggest WrestleMania Ever that kickstarted Jay White's dreams of becoming a professional wrestler. Like many of us, White grew up watching wrestling, dreaming of plying his craft in front of thousands of adoring fans, but he was totally unsure of how to go about it. Wrestling for a living just seemed wholly unrealistic. It took a slice of luck to change his mind.

WrestleMania XXVII was around the corner and White was slumming around at work, when he became aware of a radio competition based around the Showcase of the Immortals. The prize? A paid trip to the event, along with the Hall of Fame and annual access show. White entered the competition on a whim and somehow managed to win, bagging himself a trip to Atlanta, Georgia in the process.

White has gone on record as saying the show itself wasn't a great inspiration (this was The Miz vs. John Cena, after all), but the buzz of it all and the excitement surrounding the entire WrestleMania weekend was enough to convince the young White to give pro wrestling a real go. I mean, it could have been that Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler match as well, it just isn't clear.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
