2. She Was In The First Mae Young Classic

Renee's second taste of WWE life came during the first Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017. That summer, Michelle was one of the women selected for the tourney and competed on episode four against current NXT favourite Candice LeRae. She lost after around five minutes.

This was a more encouraging sign for Michelle that WWE were interested in using her further. Actually getting to wrestle rather than appear as part of a larger entourage showed that she had a future in the promotion if she kept working hard. Once the Mae Young Classic ride was over, Michelle returned to the indy circuit.

There was no shame in that. WWE now knew what Renee was all about, and she'd get another shot anyway as the role of frustrated newly-wed to pint-sized 24/7 man Drake Maverick. That, another non-wrestling (for the most part) role, has been a good fit so far.
