The average game length in the NFL is just over three hours. The actual 60-minute play is lengthened by ad breaks, penalties, halftime shows and other clock stoppages. It's a commitment to sit through everything and maintain one's attention span.

What does that sound like?

WWE Raw is also three hours in length, features countless commercial stoppages and requires a superior level of concentration weekly. Here's the thing: XFL games are aiming to drop that third hour, speed things up a bit and turn that three-hour demand into a two-hour flash. In short, they're trying to become football's version of SmackDown.

If the league succeeds in this plan, then games will actually be shorter than episodes of Raw. Notable changes from the NFL's time management methods include a continuous clock before the end-of-half two minute warning, two timeouts per half instead of three and a shorter play clock (25 seconds compared to the NFL's standard 40 seconds).
