10 Things WWE Fans Need To Know About War Games

1. Tony Schiavone Hated The Concept

On an episode of his 'What Happened When' podcast, former WCW announcer Tony Schiavone admitted that he was never a fan of the WarGames matches. That will come as a shock to those aware of Tony's love for the NWA era. His main problem came with the finishes, specifically 'The Match Beyond'.

Once both teams had been fully fleshed out, 'The Match Beyond' started. Only then could the match conclude, and it had to be by either submission or knockout (usually the former). Schiavone hated that, and described the idea as a "popcorn fart" of an idea that made it hard for fans to really feel satisfied by the finish.

Peering through the dense mesh of the steel cages, those in attendance had to pay close attention during the closing stretch to see who had given up. Even then, Tony reasoned that most fans in the arena only knew who had won by the ring announcer's word, and that didn't sit well with him on commentary.
