10 Things WWE Got Horribly Wrong In 2015

2. The Divas Revolution

Since the mid 1990s, women in WWE have been portrayed as mere eye candy, objectified in Bra & Panties matches and Pillow Fights rather than being shown as performers they are. The world has (slowly) moved on however, and 2015 was the year when WWE showed that maybe, just maybe it would do the same. The women in NXT had been blazing a trail for a while, and talk of a 'Divas Revolution' on the main roster was rife. Three of the Four Horsewomen (Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch) made their bow on RAW on the same night in July, and the revolution was on. Except it wasn't. The entire thing was orchestrated to look as though it was the will of Stephanie McMahon that brought it on, and all the females involved were shunted into teams of three. In the past, the only real character trait the women in WWE had shown was 'crazy' and 'bitchy', but now this had been expanded to become 'crazy and bitchy but in a team of three'. The audience were repeatedly told that it was a revolution, but no matter how many times you say his name in the mirror the boogeyman will not appear. Two of the teams have been ripped apart, Team Bella through injury and Team PCB through the only female character traits WWE seems to know. It won't take rocket science for a true revolution in the portrayal of female wrestling on WWE TV, but in 2015 the creative team proved that they aren't capable of providing it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
