Making Jushin Liger vs. Tyler Breeze the opening match of NXT Takeover: Brooklyn was a smart move.

The crowd were hugely respectful towards the icon that is Liger as he competed in a WWE ring for the first time. And then there’s Tyler.

Prince Pretty really is one of the poster boys of the NXT brand, and it’s to Matt Clement’s credit how improved he's gotten as a performer and how he’s grown into the role of Tyler Breeze.

The match may not be a 5* classic on anybody’s scale, but Liger vs. Breeze was a great, fun match that served to boost the stock of one of NXT’s most prized assets whilst also having the unique factor of involving a true legend of the business. There's an argument to say Breeze should've got the win, but just being in the ring with someone like Liger is of huge benefit to Tyler.

Bringing in legends and veterans for appearances here and there was something that ECW did so well back in the day, and the use of Liger here led to a hot opening for Takeover.
