A tables match is without doubt one of the lamest gimmick matches in all of professional wrestling. The bouts are almost always awkward, matches that lead towards one big spot that everyone can see coming a mile off. They are also tailor-made for non-victories, where a champion can lose a championship without being pinned or even bettered, losing more to luck than skill.

With that in mind many thought Alexa Bliss might win the SmackDown Live Championship here after Becky Lynch took an inadvertent tumble through a table, so colour many surprised and pleased that Bliss picked up a fairly clean win here.

Bliss is one of the most improved wrestlers on the entire roster in 2016, and her championship win showed her skills excellently. The eye-rake before the match-winning powerbomb was fabulously well-timed. Bliss as Champion is the right move for now, even if it only becomes a transitional move to ship the title on Nikki Bella.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
