10 Things WWE Must Do In 2017
8. Improve The Tag-Team Division On Both Brands
When the WWE reintroduced the brand-split in July, the tag-team scene barely had enough depth to comprise one division. As the New Day reigned as champions they were provided with few sincere challengers to their throne: The Vaudevillians never had a chance, Gallows and Anderson were booked horribly, and does anyone even remember the League of Nations? Despite the lack of credible teams at its disposal, WWE opted to split the division between its two brands; ignoring the alternative to have the entire division on one program like the cruiserweights. The struggling tag-team scene was on full display at Survivor Series, where The Shining Stars and The Hype Bros were deemed important enough to make an appearance.
WWE has begun to add new teams to each division as well as highlight the few solid existing teams they already had. Creating new teams out of struggling stars has paid dividends for both RAW and Smackdown, as Slater and Rhyno, Sheamus and Cesaro, as well as the New Wyatt Family have all experienced great success. If WWE can focus its efforts on stabilizing each division by adding credibility to its top teams as well as establishing a clear hierarchy within the tag-team scene, fans will start to care more and more about the titles. In order to do this, WWE needs to create interesting stories for teams outside of the championship picture.
Solid competition, a clear hierarchy, and supplementary storylines are the key to improving the tag-team divisions on both RAW and Smackdown; not time-share salesmen and fashion police.
