10 Things WWE Must Do To Ensure WrestleMania 33 Doesn't Suck

9. Utilise The Old-Timers Tastefully

WrestleMania is all about the spectacle, and there’ll always be a place for old faces on the show. The nostalgic thrill of seeing former stars again is a big part of the appeal, particularly for casual fans, but WWE don’t always use these performers particularly well. Last year saw Steve Austin, Mick Foley, and Shawn Michaels run the New Day off, for example, with The Rock squashing Erick Rowan in record quick time (6 seconds) later in the evening.

Nobody needs to see a repeat of those incidents this year, and there’s no good reason to have special guests take heat away from full-time performers in 2017. This is one of WWE’s longstanding habits, however, and with the likes of new Hall of Famers Kurt Angle, Diamond Dallas Page, and maybe even Hulk Hogan available to appear this year, there’s a strong chance it’ll happen again.

There are plenty of ways to utilise these wrestlers without detracting from current stars. Why not throw one or two in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal (DDP was in there last year, after all), or just have them banter in the ring with hosts The New Day? Putting the old-timers over benefits nobody but the performers themselves, and would be a complete waste of airtime.
