10 Things WWE Must Do To Ensure WrestleMania 33 Doesn't Suck
8. Make A New Star In The Andre The Giant Battle Royal
WWE haven’t done the best job of following-up with Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winners since the match’s inception.
Cesaro felt like a huge star coming out of the inaugural match, but a big singles push never materialized. Big Show’s victory the following year was entirely pointless, meanwhile, and the impact of Baron Corbin’s win quickly vanished through his terrible feud with Dolph Ziggler last year.
The ATG Battle Royal has huge star-making potential, and it’s about time WWE started using it for that purpose. The real acid test comes after the match, and depends entirely on how WWE follow things up, of course - but picking the right winner and presenting him strongly is the first step, and there are a number of excellent candidates this year.
The likes of Sami Zayn, Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman don’t have anything in the works and each would make a tremendous winner, but the best option lies on SmackDown. Luke Harper is poised and ready for a big singles push after splitting from Bray Wyatt. He wrestled a great match with Randy Orton at Elimination Chamber, his crowd reactions are stronger than ever before, and he’s currently involved in the WWE Championship hunt. Harper is getting over, and a star-making WrestleMania 33 performance could be the launchpad his career needs.
