10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Alberto Del Rio

4. He Needed Ricardo Rodriguez For The Character To Work

It was a fantastic idea to give Del Rio a "personal ring announcer" like Ricardo Rodriguez. Not only was Rodriguez really entertaining as a ring announcer, but he was effective as a manager, too. Since Rodriguez was a trained wrestler with experience he clearly knew what he was doing out there. He was perfect as the guy to watch Del Rio's back, sometimes take a beating for him and help him get wins when he needed them. This is another point that goes back to the face turn. Once Del Rio turned face there wasn't much use for Rodriguez. Why was he carrying around a bucket anyway? Six months after that face turn, Del Rio turned face while Rodriguez stayed heel and Rodriguez looked so out of place with Rob Van Dam. From that point on, Rodriguez never recovered. When Del Rio lost Ricardo, he became just another wrestler. His personality wasn't strong enough for him to really stand out in a role like that. The pair started in WWE together and ended up leaving around the same time too. Funny how that works.
