10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Bret Hart

9. He Was Originally Supposed To Face Ricky Steamboat At WrestleMania 2

WrestleMania 2 was one of the worst WrestleManias ever. It took place in three venues that had a total of 12 matches. The commentary team featured celebrities that had no idea what they were talking about for the most part and a lot of the matches were disappointing. What would have been nice was if Bret got to wrestle against the guy that he was originally scheduled against: Ricky Steamboat. This was back in 1986 when Bret was part of the Hart Foundation tag team. It was probably too soon to break the team up although if he faced Steamboat it would have been a great match. Here's how Hart explained it when he was on WWE's 30 Years of WrestleMania Podcast back in March. "I was initially told, quite excitedly, that I would be wrestling Ricky Steamboat, which was a dream for me, that would have been a big moment for me. Then they changed it about a month before WrestleMania, you are going to be in the battle royal with the football players, and I remember going, ugh, that€™s not going to be anywhere near the same thing. I would have a great match with Ricky Steamboat." He's right. Hart was placed in the 20 man battle royal with Andre the Giant, other midcard wrestlers and some NFL players too. He was the runner up. Steamboat had a match with Hercules that was very average. Seeing Hart vs. Steamboat at WrestleMania would have been awesome. They did have other matches, but never on the WrestleMania stage.
