10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Brock Lesnar

2. The WrestleMania 20 Match With Goldberg Was A Disaster

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wToDwcc9ifs If you ask wrestling fans what the worst WrestleMania match ever is, some of them might say Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg. It's not something I would agree with, but when you consider the build up to the match, the hype surrounding two of the toughest guys ever and the atmosphere in MSG as the crowd booed them all night long, it has to be considered a major disappointment. Fans booed both guys as soon as the match began. They knew that it was Goldberg's last match in WWE. He only signed a one year deal and that was his last night. Fans don't want to watch guys that don't want to be there. They knew Goldberg wasn't happy, so they let him know they were mad about it by booing him all night long even though he was the babyface. In Lesnar's case, word got out online that he planned on leaving WWE after WrestleMania. It wasn't official on WWE's site, but if you read any other wrestling site on the internet it's all anybody was talking about. Word likely got around in the arena, so that's why all people remember about the match was the booing and chants of "you sold out" among other things. I never understood the "you sold out" chant. The guy was walking away from millions of dollars. He walked out, but he didn't sell out. To WWE's credit, they knew they likely had a disaster on their hand so they brought in the recently retired Steve Austin as the special guest ref. After Goldberg beat Lesnar, Austin ended up hitting Stunners on both guys and that was something that made the fans in New York City happy. When WWE talks about Lesnar's WrestleMania history from his initial run, they can focus on the win over Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 19 and completely ignore the match with Goldberg a year later. Considering how bad it was, it's certainly understandable why they think that way.
