10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About CM Punk

6. He Didn't Lose His First World Title In A Match

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wanQLixL9wA When CM Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Edge to become the World Champion on June 30, 2008. It was by far the best moment of his career at that point. It was supposed to make him a top guy or at least something close to that. Instead, Punk's title reign was very mediocre. They put the World Title on him and it was a prestigious title, but they really didn't get behind him. He held it for over two months, yet instead of losing it in the ring he lost it in a backstage segment. There was an attack by Randy Orton and his Legacy buddies as Punk was doing a promo. They beat down Punk. It ended with Orton kicking Punk in the head with his dreaded punt. On the CM Punk "Best in the World" DVD, they mentioned that due to some other feuds being hot at the time they felt like they should get the title off of him. The Jericho/Michaels program was incredible, so they put the title on Jericho and used it in a main event Ladder Match at the following PPV called No Mercy. There haven't been too many champions that lost their titles in situations outside the ring, but Punk has the dubious distinction of being one of them.
