10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Dolph Ziggler

3. "Nicky" And The Spirit Squad

Those of us that watch wrestling online that know a lot about WWE know that Ziggler was "Nicky" in the WWE group known as The Spirit Squad. The group consisted of five young wrestlers who were cheerleaders that were basically out there getting beat up by some of the big name babyfaces in the company. They got to take part in angles involving Vince & Shane McMahon because whenever they were set to take a beating they sent the Spirit Squad out there to take the beating instead. The group was known for yelling out their names in a cheerleader style to annoy the fans. The group consisted of Kenny (later Kenny Dykstra), Johnny (Johnny Jeter), Mitch (Nick Mitchell, who used Mitch because Nick is Ziggler's name), Mikey (Mike Mondo) and of course Nicky played by Ziggler. Even though they were all talented wrestlers that are now in their late 20s or early 30s, Ziggler is the only one that's still in WWE. Their run on the Raw roster started in January 2006 and ended on the November 27 episode of Raw. It was a famous goodbye because when the DX duo of Shawn Michaels & Triple H were done with them, they placed all five members in a crate that had "OVW, Louisville, Kentucky" on it. It was a tongue in cheek way of saying they were all going back to developmental. The Spirit Squad is almost never mentioned by WWE even though they were a big part of storylines for their near one year run on the main roster. When it comes to Ziggler, they don't want you to know he was a part of the group because he was using a different name.
