10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Goldust

5. His Actual WWE Debut Was In 1990 As Dustin Rhodes

If you were watching WWE in the early 1990s then you might remember that Dustin actually debuted on a national stage in WWE along with his father Dusty. At the time, Dusty was feuding with Ted Dibiase & Virgil, so he brought in his 20 year old son Dustin to team up with him. It was a very short run for Dustin that included a singles match against Ted Dibiase where he showed that he was a pretty good wrestler even though he was so young. Dusty teamed up with Dustin to lose to Dibiase & Virgil and then Dusty left WWE while bringing Dustin along with him. In a 2013 interview with WrestlingInc, Dustin explained why he left with his dad and how Vince McMahon said he would bring Dustin back to WWE one day: "Dad was going back to WCW -- I didn't know it at that time but at the Royal Rumble where we did our business with Ted and Virgil, at the end there, dad said, 'Why don't you ask Vince for your release and come with me to WCW?' So I did and he granted me that. Dad tells this story to everybody still to this day. He's like, I walked off and I thanked Vince and him and dad were still talking. I'm out getting my bags or whatever it was and Vince said, 'That guy there, you're taking him with you to WCW and that's fine. But, he comes back here, I'm going to pull him from you and make him a star.'" Five years later Vince brought him back as Goldust and the rest is history. It's a cool story for sure although WWE almost never mentions that he started way back in 1990.
