10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Jeff Hardy

4. His 2009 Feud With Matt Hardy Was Meant For Christian

Hardy won the WWE Title for the first time in his career at the Armageddon PPV in December 2008. He defended his newly won piece of hardware at the 2009 Royal Rumble in a match against his long time rival Edge. Jeff had the match won after a Swanton Bomb, but an interfering Vickie Guerrero stopped the ref from counting. It was a No DQ match, which was key in the story. Matt Hardy showed up to stop Vickie from interfering. It looked like the Hardy Boys would do a Conchairto together, but instead Matt nailed Jeff in the head with a devastating chair shot. Edge covered for the win as Matt cost his brother the World Title. That wasn't the original plan, though. It was supposed to be a returning Christian making his return and costing Jeff the WWE Title. That plan got leaked out on the internet a few weeks earlier, so WWE decided to change plans. Christian's WWE return (he was in TNA for a few years) was changed so he could come back on the ECW brand and Matt Hardy was put in his place. Jeff went on to have multiple PPV matches against his brother Matt, which were good although people expected them to be better. A feud with Jeff and Christian could have been better than the Hardy Boys feud just because the brother vs. brother story seemed a bit ridiculous when they said that Matt burned his house down (covered that earlier). WWE doesn't want you to know they changed plans, but they did.
