10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About John Bradshaw Layfield

2. He Violently Attacked The Blue Meanie At ECW One Night Stand 2005

The ECW One Night Stand PPV from June 12, 2005 was one of the most fun events that WWE has ever put on. As soon as it was over, fans were talking about how great it was and they were also talking about what JBL did to the Blue Meanie. At the end of the show, the WWE guys were brawling with the ECW guys in the ring. It was a fight the ECW guys won to send the fans home happy. However, JBL took things a bit too far when he beat up the Blue Meanie to the point that Meanie's face was busted open. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9TOsHnTRyo Here's how Meanie explained it in an article in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel from 2005 ten days later: "I was thrown off guard. I turned around and saw a shot coming right to my face. People were between us and he started yelling about how I had talked bad about him on the Internet. I was like, 'It's a work!' Look at him. The guy is 6-7 and 300-something pounds. He's a little more imposing than me." In the same article, it noted that Meanie said his face became swollen and he still had blood in his left eye 10 days after the incident. There was also another verbal altercation between the men in the locker room after the show. A few days after the incident, there was a WWE.com story all about it, which was probably around the time WWE decided to turn it into an angle. In that article it says things like JBL didn't even know Meanie when he worked for WWE, which is ridiculous because they worked together for two years. On the July 7, 2005 edition of Smackdown they had JBL wrestle Blue Meanie. Batista showed up to cost JBL the match as Meanie got the upset win. It was a shoot that was turned into a work. JBL's actions at One Night Stand 2005 were very real and it's not the kind of behavior that WWE wants us to remember. All is well now as evidenced from this picture from JBL's website.
