10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About John Bradshaw Layfield

3. Joey Styles Gave Him A Black Eye

This is one of those things that when it happened people just sat there wondering if they read it right and were left saying "huh" because it seemed like such a bizarre thing. During a December 2008 tour of Iraq for WWE's Tribute to the Troops, JBL got involved in some kind of incident with announcer Joey Styles. The incident led to Styles punching JBL and giving him a black eye. That's not a misprint. An announcer gave a tough guy wrestler a black eye. Here's how PWInsider reported about it in 2008: "JBL is known for being a locker room bully and he was giving it to Joey Styles all week. Over the weekend, Styles had enough and got in JBL€™s face. Several WWE employees jumped in to break it up and JBL, who had been drinking, broke free. He then charged at Styles, who punched him right in the face and knocked him down. JBL ended up with a black eye and a cut under his eye, which were somewhat visible on Monday€™s RAW. JBL wore heavy make-up during the broadcast and tilted his cowboy hat down a bit to conceal his face. JBL spent most of Monday night by himself in the locker room, being very quiet and spending most of his time on his Blackberry phone." The Raw in question was December 8, 2008, which was a show where WWE handed out the annual Slammy Awards. Shawn Michaels won the award for Match of the Year with Ric Flair and JBL came out to take the award from him since he was doing the story where he owned everything Michaels had. This is where you can see JBL with his cowboy hat on and while it's hard to see the black eye, this was the show following that tour. This goes back to JBL hazing people. Apparently Styles had enough of it and when he got the chance he took a shot at JBL. Nothing happened afterward probably because JBL realized he deserved it. The fact that an announcer like Styles knocked out a top guy is something WWE wants you to forget.
