10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Kane

10. Setting Fire To Undertaker's Casket At Royal Rumble 1998

Kane debuted in October 1997 during the classic Hell in a Cell match between Shawn Michaels and his storyline brother The Undertaker. A couple of months later at Royal Rumble 1998, Undertaker got his rematch against Michaels in a casket match. Late in the match, a gang of heels tried to help Michaels win by attacking The Undertaker. It was a scene which was very similar to the 1994 Royal Rumble when Undertaker lost a casket match to Yokozuna. Then Kane's music hit and he ended up saving Undertaker, which was a major surprise considering the events of and after Hell in a Cell. After Kane had cleared the ring, it looked like he was going to call a truce with his brother. That didn't happen, though. It was, as they say, a 'set-up all along'. He turned on him, placed Undertaker in the casket and cost him the match. After the match, Kane made sure to lock Undertaker in the casket. Then Kane took an axe to the casket and lit it on fire. The Rumble ended with fans thinking that Undertaker was on fire in the casket. A post-show video revealed that The Undertaker was able to get out of it at some point and no damage had been done. It's still silly that they would end a show with a guy supposedly burning to death in a casket. But that's how WWE liked to book their storylines with Kane even in his early years. Nothing was ever too ridiculous for the Big Red Machine.
