10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About "Macho Man" Randy Savage

7. He Did Commentary In 1993 Because Of His Divorce

When Raw became a primetime Monday night show for WWE in 1993, it was odd to see Randy Savage on commentary with Vince McMahon. After all, Savage had been a top guy in WWE for so long and even the year before he was winning the WWE Title at a WrestleMania. All of a sudden he was on commentary. As a Savage fan I found myself wondering why was that happening? It turns out that in 1992, about a year after their on screen wedding, the couple separated and then Elizabeth filed for divorce. She was probably sick of Randy's controlling ways so moved on from him. Due to all the stress of the divorce, WWE decided to put Savage on commentary instead of having him travel as often to wrestle on shows. It was stressful time in his life. There was actually a story in WWF Magazine about the divorce in 1994 although it was never something that WWE acknowledge on television. For a lot of us that only watched WWE TV shows, we had no idea what happened with Elizabeth or why Randy stopped wrestling on a regular basis. When Savage went to WCW a few years later, Elizabeth was also there with him and she was even managing him at different periods of his career. Even though they weren't married, they were able to work together on a professional level.
