10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Mark Henry

7. The "Hall Of Pain" Was Originally A Brodus Clay Idea

The "Hall of Pain" has become a signature phrase for Henry. That's what he says when he lays a beating on somebody. When he got his main event level push in 2011, he started doing promos about how he's going to induct people into his Hall of Pain. It was a great idea because it worked for him. What we didn't know at the time was that it was another wrestler that came up with it. It was reported in the Wrestling Observer in late 2011 that Brodus Clay actually came up with it. Clay was filming a movie earlier in 2011 and he wondered what creative had planned for him. When he was told that he should come up with his own idea, he suggested the "House of Pain" idea. Clay's thinking was that after he was done beating somebody up he would induct them into his House of Pain. Clay was told it was a great day. As we saw on Smackdown that year, the phrase turned into the Hall of Pain and it was given to Henry. As we saw when Clay made his WWE debut, he was in a babyface role as the dancing "Funkasaurus" while Henry was getting pushed as a monster heel that couldn't be stopped as he went on to win his first and only World Title. It's not a surprise that WWE would give the phrase to Henry since he's the veteran wrestler that they wanted to push. That's just how wrestling is sometimes. Sorry Brodus Clay.
