10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Mick Foley

1. Receiving 10 Chair Shots From The Rock At Royal Rumble 1999

If there's one thing WWE wants you to forget about Mick Foley it's that he took a ridiculous amount of chairshots at the 1999 Royal Rumble when he wrestled The Rock in an I Quit Match for the WWE Title. During the match, Foley was handcuffed with his arms behind his back as The Rock unloaded on him with 10 chair shots. According to Foley, it was only supposed to be five shots. For whatever reason, Rock decided to hit him more than that. It was probably because Rock was still a young wrestler and he thought it would add to the match, but it went from a good wrestling story to something that was difficult to watch. The goal of the chair shot sequence was to put over The Rock as this vicious young heel that would do anything to win, but they definitely took things too far with this beating. The Rock actually hit him in the ring five times. When they went outside the ring, Rock hit him another five times before the match ended with an audio tape playing with Foley saying "I Quit." It was part of the storyline to keep the feud going. http://youtu.be/UCzc64G2rTw The reason it's something WWE wants you to forget is because it was one of the low points of Foley's career. He was embarrassed that it happened especially because he had young children sitting front row and they were crying at ringside. It was all shown in the Beyond The Mat documentary. He also had a tough time forgiving The Rock for it although they did patch things up. It was also a moment that we're likely never going to see again because chair shots to the head have been banned. Seeing somebody receive ten of them in one match is difficult to watch considering how much WWE has changed since then. --------- That's it for this week's things WWE wants us to forget series.
