10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Mick Foley
10. Mr. Socko Actually Hurt The Credibility Of The Mandible Claw
Mankind had a great finisher with the Mandible Claw. The way it worked was that the person applying the move put their middle and ring fingers together with the idea being those two fingers would go in under the opponent's tongue with their thumb under the chin, squeezing them and causing them legitimate pain. It looked like a painful move. What Mankind did in his early heel days in 1996 was he had those two fingers wrapped together so when he was ready to apply his finisher it would cause even more pain. Over the next couple of years, he started using a sock puppet called Mr. Socko that he would pull out of his pants (most of time) and apply it to his opponent. While it was a popular move with the fans, because for whatever reason we liked seeing a guy using a sock as a weapon, it really took away some of the things that made the Mandible Claw so deadly. When you have a sock on your hand you can't stick the two fingers down the guy's throat with as much pressure. It popped the crowd, though, so that's why he did it. It's just a shame that one of the best looking finishing moves was hurt by the use of a sock of all things. That's pro wrestling for ya.
