10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Mick Foley

9. He Nearly Quit WWE After Survivor Series 1997

Like a lot of people in WWE at the time, Foley was very upset when Vince McMahon screwed Bret Hart out of the WWE Title at Survivor Series 1997 in a match that ended with Shawn Michaels leaving as the WWE Champion. The feeling amongst the wrestlers was that if Vince could do that to somebody like Hart that had been there for over a decade and been one of the most loyal guys ever then what could he do to them? Foley was so mad about his friend Bret getting screwed over that he didn't even go to Raw the next night. Foley wasn't in a position to quit the company. Some did like Rick Rude and Bret's brother in law Davey Boy Smith, although it wasn't a smart move for him. In Foley's case, he had a big role in WWE while gaining traction as a babyface. If he left it would have really hurt his career to the point that he may never have been a top guy in the business. He had to help support his family too. He was doing his dream job and getting paid well for it. While this story is something that we learned about through his book as well as numerous documentaries, it was never something that WWE was going to brag about on their TV shows. They didn't brag about how they were able to keep a guy like Foley from quitting. It was something that was always kept under wraps.
