10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Mick Foley

8. The Hardcore Title Was Meant To Be A Comedy Title

The Hardcore Title was given to Mankind by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon on November 2, 1998. It was done because at the time the story was that Mankind would do anything to impress Vince McMahon, so Vince wanted to reward him with a title. It was a horrible looking title that was made scrap metal and other recycled materials. The whole point behind it was for McMahon to reward Mankind for his work even though everybody watching at home knew McMahon wasn't genuine with his gift. The story was that Mankind was too stupid to realize it and that stupidity was something McMahon had no problem taking advantage of. One Mankind lost the Hardcore Title he never really went after it again because he was in the main event picture. The title lasted for nearly four years, but after 234 different title changes it became a joke more than anything. When fans think about the Hardcore Title and Foley as its first champion, they tend to think that it was prestigious honor. In reality it was just a joke that went on for way too long.
